What is a fraternity?
A fraternity is a group of men who believe and live by the same 7 core values, and foster a close personal association through those values. These values bind together not only the current chapter members, but members and alumni throughout the country. Fraternity men incorporate these values in all aspects of their lives, never letting go of those beliefs. Lambda Chi’s values are Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service and Stewardship, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.
How is Lambda Chi different from any other fraternity?
Lambda Chi prides itself on being different because when our founder Warren A. Cole was at Boston University he did not find a fraternity for him they were all “Stuck Up”. So he decided to start his own it was for the people that didn’t want to be a part of the stereotype, it is for the people willing to break the stereotype.
Aren't fraternities and sororities just like the one shown in the movie "Animal House"?
Nobody likes stereotypes. The best way to get to know a fraternity is to get to know its members. Fraternities are made up of a wide variety of undergraduate students, along with thousands of Alumni, each one a unique individual. At the heart of every fraternity is a set of value-based principles related to the development of character, leadership, scholarship, service, and lifelong friendship.
My son is considering joining Lambda Chi, what can I expect?
You can expect your son to grow in many areas of his life. He will have the chance to be put into leadership roles, he will have the opportunity to be involved in Greek Events, and also have a life long friendship. He will be able to be able of a wonderful brotherhood that is more than 100 years old. Lambda Chi Alpha would be a great decision for your son.
What is alcohol use really like in fraternities?
Alcohol abuse is unhealthy and inconsistent with fraternity ideals. All fraternities are expected to uphold state and city laws, university, fraternity, and governing council policies regarding consumption of alcohol. In addition, fraternities are not allowed to purchase alcohol for members or guests. The days of open keg parties at Greek social functions are gone. Instead, you'll find a brotherhood that will change your son for life.
What impact will a fraternity membership have on my son or his grades?
Students often find it difficult to manage their time when moving from the highly structured high school environment to the freedoms of college. Fraternities assist in that transition by offering scholarship programs which may include study partners, mandatory study hours, and time management workshops. Your student can access and network with members who already know how to use campus resources like the library, tutors, computer labs, study lounges, and academic advisers.
What about pledging or hazing?
Lambda Chi created the curve by abolishing hazing in 1972. Since then chapters have not been permitted to do it. Lambda Chi Alpha believes that breaking a person down should not be the way to “build” them up. Lambda Chi has always been ahead of the curve, are you ready to jump on it?
New fraternity members all experience a period of orientation to the organization that they choose to join. During this time, they will participate in leadership retreats, community service projects, weekly meetings to learn about the university and the fraternity history, and activities designed to build friendships among members of the organization. ALL FRATERNITY POLICIES FORBID HAZING and all chapters are committed to a membership education period which instills a sense of responsibility and commitment in the new members.
